August 6, 2019 – Modern Energy Management (MEM), a specialist in developing, building and operating investment grade renewable energy projects in emerging markets, announced that it has been appointed by a confidential client to perform due diligence on the acquisition of an operating wind farm in Vietnam.
Vietnam is currently the most active renewable energy market in ASEAN due to its heavy reliance on coal and hydro power. Yet growth of installed wind capacity has slowed due to pricing of electricity generated by wind power and a PPA that is not generally considered suitable for international investors.
This deal would reaffirm investor confidence as the government continues to ramp up renewable energy generation from both wind and solar power to 1,650MW by 2020 with continued growth to 18,000MW by 2030.
“Modern Energy is more than a technical advisory firm,” stated Aaron Daniels, Managing Director of Modern Energy Management. “In addition to a technical evaluation, we approached the project from commercial and financial perspectives, with a keen eye to reduce risk and improve investor returns. We are unique in our ability to do this as our team has significant experience developing, building and operating renewable energy projects in SE Asia.”
“We believe we add significant value for our clients,” Mr. Daniels continued, “In a market landscape like Vietnam that allows no margin for error for investors, and despite the fact that the Vietnam project is already in operation, we found opportunities to optimize the project technically and commercially, improving project performance.”
Currently MEM supports investors of projects in Vietnam with a current estimated capacity of over 1,300MW.
